A Rainforest in the Centre of Paris?

As a regular visitor to Paris, as my youngest daughter lives there, I usually stay with her in Chelles a lovely little suburb or in the Marais, the historic district. But if I am in need of a treat and want to stay somewhere very unusual Pershing Hall is the place for me. It is in the old Foreign Legion building close to the George V Hotel. The thing I love about this hotel is the vertical rainforest in the centre courtyard. What a clever way of having a large garden in such a small space. I looked through the plants to see how it was done and it is a wall of felt with pockets full of soil and is constantly fed with moisture to keep everything growing frantically. It attracts numerous birds and can be seen from every hallway around the courtyard. Sitting having a Summer meal in this courtyard is a fabulous experience.
The hotel was designed by Andree Putnam and I must say slightly over-designed with such things as a triple mirror opposite the bed that lights up when opened. Mine had a faulty closing mechanism which meant it kept opening itself during the night with a flash of light and frightening the life out of me but I forgave them as they brought me a box of my favourite chocolates from the chocolatier opposite the hotel.
