Forget the Code and Remember the Man

The Vinci Museum in Vinci, Tuscany is one of the most outstanding museums I have ever visited. I usually rush through museums as I haven't the time or inclination to stop at every exhibit and understand it. I use the BBC documentaries for that. However the Vinci museum is full of original drawings and working models of Leonardo da Vinci's ideas. You cannot rush through this museum as it is awe inspiring. The castle itself is wonderful and the little city of Vinci where Leonardo was born is a typical Tuscan treat.

It is a shame that lots of people visit Tuscany and don't even know it exists. This to me is the true art of Leonardo as it enables you to get into his brain to see how it worked. Look at the bike it is astounding that he thought of that so many centuries ago. I have seen the working model and the chain is made from leather loops. He designed the bridge in the beautiful painting (the curved one) and it has now been built exactly to that design somewhere in Norway.

If you can't visit the museum then at least go the website to see what is on offer. It is a pity the website wasn't designed by him as it is less than beautiful.
