Now Pay Attention - Plaster Stencils

plaster stencils the stencil library
Last Friday I went to back to school. Well not exactly, I went to my lovely, talented friend's home/business - The Stencil Library and Helen taught me to stencil with plaster. Above is one we made earlier. It took all of 5 minutes to learn (we ate cake and drank coffee for the rest of the time) and if you want to try it then go to Helen's fab blog - Design Inspiration as she has very kindly put instructions on there just for you my friends. There's pictures of me being taught as well - always good for a laugh.
My stencils below are being used to apply a plaster relief pattern to two pillars and a ceiling in my cottage.
All shall be revealed when it's done.

I am soooo jealous that you get together with Helen and eat cake and stencil and smoke etc etc. I have bought numerous stencils from her (the best and largest selction on the entire world). I want to come live close by and work for a pitance just so I can be part of the group!

Forgot about this. Just a tip. regular old joint compound for the relief works fine if it is not going to get banged up to much (which it usually does not) and it is easy to sand down any edges, ridges if you want to. Then seal or paint or whatever. You can also tint it easily with acrylic paints or universal tints or pigments or crushed up pastels etc. I use a plain plastic paint scraper/spatula you can buy cheap in the paint/hardware store.

The stencils are lovely. I've done that before just using joint compound and they turned out pretty good.
Be sure and share with us when you finish!
Have a great weekend!
