I personally can never pass a skip withut taking a look inside it. Call me a skip rat I don't care. I never cease to be amazed at what people throw away. Invariably you will see old boards these can be cleaned and waxed and turned into shelves to fix to the wal or even hung from the ceiling.
Plumbers often throw left over pipes into skips so take them home and bend them to your heart's desire.
Or leave them straight and use them for hanging utensils from.
Pallets can be turned into most anything. Make sure you sand them down properly as they are pretty rough.
