Sometimes when getting ready I will leave an article of clothing on the bottom of my bed. It never looks good but I'm pretty sure I could live with this. It has to be said that each piece is freshly laundered.

I think a bed needs to be inherently designed so that it looks good messy, as messy beds are the reality. Better yet, make it indistinguishable whether a bed is messy or not. Layering of colour and textures is good for this, as is white-on-white.
