Our Cottage Extension - DAY 1
Well this is how our cottage garden looked this morning at 8am and below is how it looked this evening at 5pm. Can you see we found the original flag stone floor of the Byre (a building for animals) that used to be attached to the cottage? We have no idea how old that floor is, it could be as far back as the 1600s for all we know.
An archaeologist has been present all day, painstakingly uncovering every flag stone. We found bottles, coins, old clay pipe fragments, and all sorts of things that I will show you another day when I have rid them of all the crap that's stuck to them.
We disturbed a mother mouse and her baby which were living in the garden wall and I actually felt a bit sorry for them as they looked so frightened when they ran off. Had they run over my foot it would have been another story though.
All in all a fascinating day and I will report on the coming weeks progress next Monday.

Wow! What a big project!
Thanks for letting us live vicariously through you!
Eeeek, it really has started.
Are you escaping for coffee with me this week?
Wow! Such history - absolutely fasciating. Can't wait to hear more about what you found and what the archeologist thought. xo
How exciting, I hope your renovation is more fun than I've been having (nightmare scenarios galore)!
