My Big 60th Birthday Bash

On Sunday 24th July 2011 I hit 60 years of age and my gorgeous family held a party for me on the village green outside our cottage. They cooked and brought food, drinks and everything imaginable to throw a wonderful party.

My cake was a Vintage Amoire with a Lot 60 ticket on it and 6 champagne bottle candles, it was beautiful. I know my name is Di but to the children I am Nan or Nanny.

Gifts just kept coming - things to make me look and smell better,

things very personal to me,

gorgeous jewellery, carefully chosen to go with my bohemian taste,

chocolates and goodies to indulge me and

beautiful flowers to brighten mu day.

Trying to blow the candles out on my cake proved very difficult with 6 grandchildren trying to help me.

They soon shifted when I got the knife in my hand.

The little ones had a fabulous day with the freedom to run around with no fears. The advantage of living in a remote hamlet.

Megan is nearly 12 so a bit too cool to be photographed with the other grandchildren.

Mathilda the escapee. A perfect picture of childhood freedom.

My son Garry and daughter Rebecca outside the cottage, just had to include this one as it looks like a Paparazzi shot.

My daughter-in-law Emma, daughters Sara and Francesca who with the help of Rebecca provided the most delicious food.

You can see from this shot just how perfect the weather was.

Another escapee, Harvey retreating for a moment

The oldies corner.

and the dismantling of the marquee at the end of the day. I had absolutely nothing to do. It was a perfect day with 4 things missing only and they were

my daughter Charlotte, her partner Bad and baby Tiana all in France and Georgia my eldest Grandchild who was in Greece on holiday. However she did send me her framed picture (see 3rd image).

OK This Is It - On Sunday I Hit 60

On Sunday I will have reached the ripe old age of 60. How did that happen? However I am still younger than my sister and the bloke who is still waiting to be King.

I can't believe Truman was President and Clement Atlee was Prime Minister in the year I was born.

I was born on a Tuesday and am apparently Full of Grace

I was almost born outside the Wall's Sausage Factory in Acton, London. The ambulance had to stop at the gates as they thought I was coming out. I have a feeling I took one look at the sign at the factory gates and thought 'No way am I having that on my birth certificate'

They did funny things to your hair when you were a baby in the 50s. Why I do not know

The ruby is my birthstone, this one is worth $14 million. Doubt I'll get one of these on Sunday

When I was little I bathed in a tin bath and quite often had dripping sandwiches. I am fit and healthy so it must have been good quality dripping. For my American readers dripping is fat from roasting meats

Wonder Woman was born on the same day as me in 1951, that gives me some hope. Actually it was the actress Lynda Carter who played Wonder Woman but we'll not nit pick

The Festival of Britain was held in my honour that year or rather I would like to think it was.
My lovely family are all setting up a marquee and picnic on the green outside my cottage on Sunday to help me celebrate. I shall report on that on Monday and promise that the pictures will be much prettier.

Icon Backboards at Ghost Furniture

TWIGGY
Having discovered our paints are chalk and wipe friendly we came up with this idea. You can chalk over the silhouette and wipe it off with a wet or dry cloth as you can with the background. So then we had to find a novel way of using our discovery, the result is a range of Icon Blackboards each one featuring Icons of the 20th century each placed in a unique vintage frame.
More to come and yes there will be blokes. Available at Ghost Furniture

Just a Room But What a Room

Fabulous room
I love it when an image jumps off the computer screen and says 'Look at me aren't I fabulous?' as this one did. The vivid colours against the shabby black backdrop, the vintage suitcases of all colours set in the wall, the bold bedspread......................
