A Message To America

obama and health care
It is with huge relief I write this post. Congratulations to all Americans on having Obama as your President for a second term.
I know from bitter experience how horrendous it is when someone close to you is diagnosed with a life threatening illness and without the NHS I dread to think where we would be right now.
Americans should rejoice in the fact that they will soon not have to worry when they get ill. We in the UK pay into our Health Service via taxation but I don't know a single person who would not pay into this brilliant service. The NHS is not perfect but then what in life is? It does however saves lives on a daily basis and takes the worry out of paying for that.
My message to America is - I hope you all get better very soon.

  2. I wish more Americans understood this. So many of us have been hoodwinked by special interests to think Obamacare is a bad thing when the truly bad thing is the obscene profits made by insurance companies. I would love for more Brits and European citizens to share their experiences with Americans to help allay some of their fears. Thank you for the good wishes!

  3. yes, the good news is that obama is once again our president!
after returning from england i am torn, heard so many NHS horror stories and experienced one when a good friend had to have emergency surgery.
but, there has to be a solution and the ease of not worrying for how to pay has me hoping he is successful
    cheers

Unfortunately, that is not the case. There are no cost controls, and due to the additional people being covered, health care costs are expected to go through the roof.

Also, there's a loophole for businesses who might otherwise be forced to provide expensive coverage for its employees. They have to cover any employees under $15/hr and at least 30 hours a week. The expectation is that all such employees will find themselves knocked down from 40 hours to 29 hours a week, so incomes will decrease for the poorest.

These are just some of the problems we're going to encounter come 1/1/2014.

Thank you, Di! This will be an adjustment in thinking for Americans but one that must be made. It won't be perfect but it will be a good start.
